A 552 Carat Christmas Diamond?

A 552 carat Christmas diamond?  You might have a diamond for Christmas according to a press release this week.  A rough diamond that’s approximately the size of a chicken egg was was recently discovered at a mine in the Northwest Territories of Canada.  It’s the biggest diamond ever found in North America.  This 552 carat yellow diamond is almost three times the size of the next biggest stone ever found in Canada.

This is a gem quality stone that somehow survived the trip through the processing facility without being crushed.  Mine officials say it remains to be seen what can be cut from the rough and its ultimate value.
