Design Change??

I have a question:

Earlier, I used to use a watermark Blogger design in earth tones and I’m considering returning to that.  Several months ago I changed to my present black background design.  In the design I’m currently using my text appears everywhere else (via RSS) highlighted on a black background.   I do the highlighting in blog entries in order to have my text readable on the blog.

Am I missing something?    My earlier black background design did not require this.  Any comments?
