Getting Back to Work
I’ve been surprised at how long it is taking to get everything set up again after our recent move. We are making progress – I’m working on some flower pieces in copper, trying out some new (to me) techniques and approaches.
We have just gotten the photography “studio” put together again and are beginning to catch up on much needed pictures of “new” vintage pieces and some of my jewelry.
I’d like to share what I’m currently working on with you. The photo here is a copper prototype that will eventually become a sterling silver design. I created a three-part flower design recently and I’m working on a couple of variations – a pendant and also a brooch. First the design is transferred to the copper sheet and cut out. The petals are shaped and textured individually. In addition, I cut a back plate with an attached tab that becomes the bail and a circle of little “prongs” that are cut out the make the center of the flower.
All that’s left is to assemble the parts and rivet them together. The finished pendant is shown above below. The next step – create a hammered necklace for the pendant. This is a preview – I’m working up another article that will show all the steps in more detail with better photos.
