Pearls and Pearl Jewelry

I love pearls and pearl jewelry. Pearls can have unusual shapes (baroque pearls) and neat colors – I think they are all wonderful. A pearl is a hard object produced within the soft tissue of a mollusk as the result of an irritant. The pearls we treasure are composed of calcium carbonate deposited over that irritant in numerous concentric layers. The ideal pearl is perfectly round and smooth.

You need to take care of your pearl jewelry – wear your pearls often.  Pearls should be the last thing you add to your outfit – after all your makeup and hair are done.  You don’t want traces of hairspray, etc. to touch your pearls.  Wipe your pearls with a soft cloth after each wearing and store them flat. Clean them with a damp cloth only as needed and let them dry before storing them.  Pearls scratch easily so give the their own space.

Pearl jewelry is a traditional gift for graduations and weddings. June’s birthstone is the pearl. I offer a selection of freshwater pearl necklaces and earrings, but I also have lots of pearls for single strand necklaces and custom made jewelry. The pearls pictured are perfect for a gorgeous single strand necklace. If you are interested in these pearls or want something a little different contact me.
