Dramatic gold tone “atomic” sunburst clip earrings with a large prong set dark purple rhinestone and a “spray” of lighter amethyst rhinestones. Quality jewelry construction, but no maker’s mark. The earrings probably date from the 1960s and they are in excellent condition. Each earring is 1 inch long and just over 0.5 inch across. All the stones are prong set.
A lovely pair of vintage clip style earrings. Earrings are lightweight and easy to wear – could be worn for day or evening. Between the 1940s and ’60s, major Cold War concerns kept all parties on every side concerned. This was a period also known as the Atomic Age due to the development of the atom bomb. Images of the Atomic Age influenced the designs of many different products during this period: abstract organic forms and geometric “atomic” designs were being produced for all sorts of things from home decor to china and jewelry for example. In jewelry, this “look” became very popular and was instantly recognizable everywhere.
These earrings are a great example of atomic jewelry design and they really sparkle! The earring is well balanced, lightweight, and easy to wear – it could be worn for day or evening and they would make a great gift for someone special, too.
