Symbols of Summer – Hummingbirds and My Favorite August Birthstone
Symbols of Summer-Hummingbirds and My Favorite August Birthstone
The Warrior Bird – Everyone loves hummingbirds. These tiny colorful creatures are definitely the perfect symbols of summer. I wanted to share something about hummingbirds that I enjoyed reading. The article is The Warrior Bird and it’s a fascinating piece about hummingbirds from a recent New York Times issue.
August Birthstone – August claims multiple birthstones: Peridot, Sardonyx and Spinel, but peridot is my long time favorite. The bright green color of this gemstone says summertime to me.
Peridot is one of the few gemstones that exists in only one color: a distinctive signature lime green! If you really like citrus tones or earth tones (and I do), then peridot is a stone that belongs in your jewelry collection. You can find the items pictured below in Gemstone Earrings, in Gemstone Necklaces, and in Gemstone Pendants on my website.
A gift of peridot is said to bring the wearer magical powers and healing properties to protect against nightmares. It is also said to instill power and influence through the wearing of the gemstone.
Peridot, with it’s signature lime green color, is also known as olivine. It’s a reasonably hard stone that measures 6.5-7 on the Mohs scale. Peridot can be found in colors that may vary from yellow green to olive green to brownish, but the bright lime greens and olive greens are the most popular.
