Weekend Show
Last weekend’s show suffered from the same things that have been reported for other shows – some weather related problems and very constrained buying from the customers.
We set up on Friday afternoon and the show officially opened at 5pm. I was really surprised by the number of people who turned out between 5 and 10pm. The event was held in the shopping area of a residental community, so a number of people were going to have dinner in one of the local restaurants.
Saturday was sunny and bright and very windy. I spent more time than I liked hoping that the tent would stay put. We had a good location with grass on one side and also behind us, so we could stake the back corners and one front corner. This was our first experience with a really windy day. I packed up at the end of the day Saturday – I was not at all sure that the tent would survive the forecast stronger winds and rain overnight.
We walked through the show on Sunday. I’d estimate that a third to a half of the artists left Saturday night. Sunday was windy with a lot of rain in the morning. By the time the show started it was sunny and pleasant, but still windy. Lots of people had taken their tents down. I would do this show again and put some of the lessons we learned into practice – I’d also hope for better weather.
