What’s Happening in Santa Fe and Albuquerque – Mid-April into May 2019

Espanola Valley Fiber Arts Center Classes – a continuing series of events.  Classes include sculptural crochet,  dyeing techniques for quilters. traditional Yaruba adire (dyeing techniques), Navajo weaving and much more.  For more information and to register for classes go to info@evfac.org or www.evfac.org/events

The 11th Annual UNM Sustainability Expo will be held Thursday, April 18th, from 10:30AM to 2:30PM on Cornell Mall, just north of Cornell Dr. and Redondo Dr. on UNM Main Campus.  A one day event with local farmers and food trucks; live music; eco-lifehacks; a clothing swap and clothes recycling; and a wide variety of opportunities to learn about sustainable practices, connect with community partners, and take action. Multiple campus organizations are responsible for hosting this event, including the UNM Sustainability Studies Program, the UNM Office of Sustainability, and UNM Parking and Transportation.  Questions? Albuquerque Turkish Festival – April 20th 2019, 11:00am – 7:00pm MDT at the Turkish Cultural Center at 7901 Mountain Rd. NE, Albuquerque 87110 The festival will feature samples of Turkish- Mediterranean Cuisine (Doner Gyro Kebab, Baklava, Turkish Coffee and more), cultural exhibits, folk dances, live music, children’s area, arts & crafts and more!   Admission is FREE and the event is open to the public.

BioPark Earth Week Celebration in Albuquerque. April 18: Earth Week Celebration at Aquarium. April 19: Earth Week Celebration at Zoo. April 20: Earth Week Celebration at Tingley Beach. April 21: Earth Week Celebration and Children’s Seed Festival at Botanic Garden. April  22 is Earth Day.    Earth Day celebrations – in Eldorado at the Community Center on April 22 and in Santa Fe’s Railyard Park on April 27.

Fiber Arts Fiesta 2019 – the  12th Biennial Albuquerque Fiber Arts Fiesta is set for Thursday, May 30 through Saturday, June 1, 2019.  The show is at the Manuel Lujan Jr, Exhibit Complex, 300 San Pedro NE – Albuquerque. Doors open at 10am daily and the show closes at 5pm.  In addition to featured quilt artist, Betty Busby, there will be many fiber art exhibits from across the country.  Fiber Arts classes are also being offered – sign up on the council website  www.abqfiberartscouncil.org
